|Puez - Odle
Perfect example of Dolomite Landscape
The Puez Odle are the sixth system of the Dolomites serial property, included by UNESCO on the World Heritage List. This area is situated entirely in South Tyrol and displays a wealth of unique features in terms of geology and, in turn, landscape.
Geomorphology and geology
From a geomorphological point of view, with their vast karst plateau, peaks and pinnacles, the Puez Odle are a perfect example of the typical Dolomite Landscape. These rocks show clearly the geomorphologic effects of climatic, glacial and landslide phenomena, still active today. Tectonic deformation is on the other hand almost absent. From a geological point of view, the Puez Odle is one of the most interesting systems. Here in fact you can admire the complete stratigraphic sequence of the Dolomites, from the Permian to the Cretaceous: volcanic rocks, sediments, deposits, lagoons, reefs, and deep underwater basins. The system abounds in fossil deposits of ammonites, bivalves and echinoderms.
